Couples Counselling…
Couples counselling, also known as relationship counselling, is a type of psychotherapy that helps couples improve their relationship. The process can help couples understand how their own behaviour has a positive or negative impact on the relationship.
Communication is the key to couples work and as a therapist I see my role as that of enabling the couple to learn to communicate better, by listening to each other, so that each person can express their feelings in a calm way.
Couples therapy can help couples
· to resolve disagreements and work through recurring conflicts.
· to build trust, increase intimacy, and strengthen their bond.
· to understand their relationship dynamics and how they interact with each other.
· to identify their relationship strengths and how to build on this.
· to resolve past relationship trauma and loss and to understand why you behave as you do in intimate relationships.
Different couples may have different therapy goals, but often, the main aim of couples therapy is to strengthen the relationship in some way. I am very aware that it requires a lot of courage to trust a stranger with sensitive information about you and your romantic relationship, therefore, we will work slowly during the first session so I can gather information, getting to know you both and start identifying what it is you both hope to achieve. It may sound strange - daunting even - but this neutral environment will mean that you can explore your feelings without guilt or fear of judgment.
The number of times we meet varies from couple to couple and we will discuss this during our work together.
